An Engaging Conversation

It is a pleasant evening in November. The air smells crisp and fresh, so different from the city air they have been breathing for so long. They are sitting side by side on the verandah looking out at the moonlit lawn.

Suddenly, a thought occurs to her: "What say we make this official, huh?"

He turns to look at her, surprised: "Are you asking?"

There is a pause as she contemplates what has just slipped out of her mouth. And then: "Yeah.... I guess so."

A huge grin appears on his face: "YES! Of course, yes!" Then he adds, more seriously, "But you know you're a moron, don't you?"

"I know"

**************************

This post is not-quite-a-tag, taken up from Grail's lovely post. Don't miss Pixie's and Poppins' great engagement stories either.

Update: To set the record straight, Moppet's Papa claims he was planning to propose in some fancy way (involving a chartered helicopter, I believe - his cousin is a pilot at some company that charters helicopters). I was all for taking back my proposal so we could do the helicopter thing, but of course, he wouldn't let me do that! This way, he can (and does) respond to my complaints about him with an unanswerable, "Well, YOU asked!"

Way too short. We want more meat please ! How did you know "him"? Was he your classmate? Were you already dating or just friends?

I can't stop smiling thinking that you proposed !

LOL for "There is a pause as she contemplates what has just slipped out of her mouth. And then: "Yeah.... I guess so."

Moppet - wow - crisp, fresh air, sitting side by side...wow - makes me want to go back to being single and starting from there! So romantic!! Wonderful to think now you guys have Moppet and are a cute little family now! Lively mood to this story with his "But you know you're a moron, don't you?!" :) Sweet humor there!

So cute! The shortness is what make it so sweet :-)

I did the proposing too, in just about the same off-hand way. I wouldn't have it any other way.

I never knew that!! Is this at LKP? And was this the 1st year or 2nd? Basically, more details :).

Moppet's Mom said...

Thank you all, and there's really not much more to the story. He and I were classmates, started off as friends, and quickly progressed to more.

Bubandpie: Yeah, I really wouldn't have it any other way either!

Squiggles Mom: Oh no, on campus, I was very much the pursued one :-) This was the November after we graduated. We were working in different cities, were missing each other much, and had squeezed out time for a weekend trip to meet at a resort town not far from Bombay.

And noon - I remember your story is rather interesting too... I know you're really busy with Kutti boy and Kutty girl right now, but do tell us your story when you find time.

Ooh ! me too !! I've known my husband for 8 years since college before we got married. And he proposed to me in the parking lot ( really !) of his hostel building . Basically said " Hmm , you wait to drop me off to hostel on your kinetic, take care of me when I dislocated my knee. And I don't let my dad buy that bike he promised me . And I keep dislocating my knee ." That's it !! End of proposal

Hi MM - mine's a long tale!
Not as romantic! Can't post it in the midst of such sweet romantic stories...This should be a tag so I will know if more people posted their stories - like short Mills n Boon stories for quick night time reading! So much fun to have married a classmate I am sure...you will have so many stories to talk about...classmates/movies/events/friends...

Moppet's Mom said...

Minka: LOL! Oh my... you're obviously just right for him, I don't think I would've understood that at all! :-))

Noon: Ok, post it after this rush of romance is over - and it is almost like a tag...so consider yourself tagged (although I'll allow you to wait until you're ready to post it)

hahahaha Copter!! too bad of you to have upstaged Moppet's Dad, MM.

And LOL at your remark on Minka's comment. I must say they share a fantastic telepathy.;) I understood nothing either.

Hi moppets mom and moppets dad..how goes it. Very nice to read all this stuff, brings back very nice memories indeed...those carefree days! I guess i knew some of these tales but had forgotten...

Smitha said...

really cute story :-)...and hope that some day...you get to have the fancy helicopter kind of special celebration. Tell him, its never too late, if not a proposal for marriage, maybe something else ;-)
Its a life time of celebrations...pick one :-D

oooh you should have let him do the helicopter thingy. how romantic of moppet's papa i must say! really sweet that he was intending to propose. in my case, i found out one fine day that P had simply assumed we would be getting married as a logical conclusion to our romance. hrmphhhh! i made him do the whole roses and champagne and ring on bended knee routine, but it wasn't that much fun considering i had engineered everthing including choosing the ring :) men i tell you!

I was going to bed but I just have to post my story before I do!

You were suckered, huh? Good going, Moppet's Dad!

Moppet's Mom said...

Squiggles Dad: Hello! Nice to see you around :-)

Smitha: I hope so too - although now that he's got me, he's far less inclined to do anything spectacular.

Aqua: Believe me, I wasn't about to stop him - but it was too late. He realised that he already had me - so no extra work on his part was required! :-)

Where have you been, btw?

Sue: Suckered well and good, I'm afraid! Loved your story - had me laughing out loud.
