Of fascists and fish

This morning, Moppet decided she wanted to wear two pony tails to school - one adorned with a green rubberband, the other with a yellow one. I tried to talk some sense into her - at least wear 2 yellows or 2 greens, never mind that neither colour goes with the dress you're wearing.

Brushing aside my conformist ideas regarding head decoration, she proceeded to give me specific instructions about the ponytails: "Yellow one on this side, green on this side, ok?"

Accepting defeat, I followed her instructions and she went off happily to admire herself in the mirror. I plonked myself down beside the husband and grumbled about his mismatched child. As always, he was quick to defend her. "What's wrong with yellow and green bands, huh? Stop being such a hairband fascist!"

Bah! This from the man who is so particular about the space between the stripes on his t-shirts that we have to take callipers along when we go shopping. Who's the fascist here, I ask you?

And talking of fascists, Moppet is turning out to be quite the little authoritarian herself. Last night, she tried to put her father in time-out because he was told her it was bedtime. "No bedtime Papa! You go time-out!" she said, complete with stern look and a little finger pointing to the time-out corner.

And her sparring buddy - Mr Fishy - one of those bouncy inflatable fellows, gets put in the corner regularly when he refuses to cooperate with her, which is most of the time, seeing that the poor fellow cannot help but bounce back when she tries to make him 'go to sleep'.

I must admit it gives me great satisfaction to hear her scream exasperatedly when he pops up for the nth time after she manages to wrestle him to the ground. "Noooo fishy, you lie down. Iss sleeping time! Ok, thassit, you go time-out!"

Ha, my darling little fascist, it's never too soon to learn, what goes around comes around! :-)

You're evil! BWAHAHAHA! Looks like poor Munch is going to be spending a lot of time in the time-out zone. He might as well decorate it in his fave colours!

Oooooooo all of you out there who say Munch is in for a time of his life - take this from me Mags - you're going to be in for the time of your life :D. Those two are going to be thick as thieves. Just you wait and watch.

God help the person who tries to cross or trouble Munch. They're going to have to get past his fiercely protective big sister first !!

Moppet is a darling thru and thru :D

Been through the different colored hairbands on each side of the pony tail. But before that was a phase where Chula started, 'I want hair like A.....(with hand actions) this hair like theeeees, in the front do like that', mind you th hand actions were of no help. Only made me think that A had a dinosaur on her head. There were tears, screams, 'Nnnnno, this is not what I wanted....I don't like my hair like that.' So I gave her a lesson on hair dos - this is a pony tail, this is a braid, this is a french braid...etc.

Now, I send her to school in two braids like goody ms two shoes and she comes back with outrageous hair styles and replies,'Oh, I asked Ms.C to style my hair. I did't like the two braids mommy'. The clothes.....I try to put full light cotton full sleeves because it is scorching and the kids play for an hr in the burning sun. She just takes them off and wears her spaghetti straps she has in her spare cloths bag. I shudder to think what this one is going to do in the future.

Moppet is not mismatched....just creative :) And you won't have any problems disciplining Munch, Moppet will do that with as much enthusiasm as she sends Fishy to Time-out! LOL!

can i send sanah to you? or you send moppet here. sanah and little moppet can match/mismatch each other's clothes- and wave stern fingers at each other.

LOL! She is so cute.. She is rehearsing to take on the role of the big sister :)
I have the reverse problem with D. If she is wearing a yellow dress, everything from top to bottom has to be yello. If I want her to wear white socks with them, then I have to find atleast a white spot somewhere in the dress..
What goes around comes around! Tell me about it. Couple of days back I was asked to behave when I shrugged my shoulders to something my husband said.

We teach these kids something and it comes back to bit us in our butts, at the most untimely fashion, I tell you. Moppet is a darling and yes, she is ready to take on the role of a big sister.

SM: Loooong time! Where've you been and hope all is well? I can well imagine A's been upto all sorts of similar tricks :-)

~Nm, Mona, Preethi: Yeah, cute is the only reason she hasn't yet been skinned alive by her ma :-)

Sunita, Deej, Mystic: Yup, I'm going to leave Munch entirely in his big sister's despotic hands :-)

Gauri: Voice of experience talking, eh? :-) Yeah, I have a bad feeling I'm going to be ganged up on by the 2 brats, and how!

JLT: You're right! I totally fall about laughing when she does these things, and now she knows when I'm laughing at her and she doesn't like it... Doesn't stop me though! :-)

Utbtkids: LOL! I thought we'd get a few years - at least 8 or 9 before we became uncool parents with no sense of style. Apparently we get less than 2! Who knew?

Sur: It's an appealing prospect - I can just imagine the 2 of them mismatching each other's clothes and accessories :-) I'll put Moppet in a box and Fedex her over to you!

Suki: You're welcome!

Ddmom: LOL! If D needs to match shoes to each outfit by colour, you must be having a hard time! Moppet's latest thing appears to be silver sandals. I have no idea where she picked that up from but she keeps telling me she wants silver sandals.

Shobana: Oh tell me about it - the other day I was absent-mindedly pulling off a scab on my leg and the little Hitler comes up with 'No kratching, Mama. Put some cream'

CD: Will come round to pick the tag in a bit...

Here I was thinking perhaps it is THE post. but this made good reading too :)

Maggie said...

Mandira: Yeah, yeah, I'm already uncool mom... Sigh! And I thought she'd hit her pre-teens before I turned into that! :-)

Swati, Dottie: Come on, surely I wouldn't put fascists and fish in the title of Munch's birth announcement?! LOL! Besides, you'll probably get the news on the shower group before it appears here....

The brat had a pop-up clown like that and it pissed him off totally. And one day mysteriously, all the air from it was gone - murder most foul, I tell you!
